After Henry VIII's death, her stepmother Catharine Parr remairried Thomas Seymour, 1st Baron Seymour of Sudeley (Edward VI's uncle) and took Elizabeth in her household, till Parr send her way after discovering unappropriate behaviour on Seymour's side. When Parr died in 1548, Seymour redoubled his efforts to marry Elizabeth and get his hands on the Royal family. Seymour was arrested in January 1549 and executed 20 Mrch 1549. After Edward VI's death on 6 July 1553, his choice as successor, Lady Jane Grey was proclaimed Queen (against the law) and was therfore quickly deposed. Together with the new Queen Mary, Elizabeth entered London.
