She was placed in her half-brother Edward's (12 October 1537) household under the care of governesses, the most well-known being Catherine Champernowne, who taught her four languages (French, Dutch, Italian and Spanish). Her tutor William Grindal in 1544 taught her Latin and Greek (translating from these languages into English remained her life long passion). After 1548 she received education together with her half-brother Edward. Later on in life she also learned to speak Welsh, Cornish, Scottish and Irish.
