In 1525 he inherited the Electoral throne after his brother's death. Unfortunately he had a weak head for administration which resulted in massive corruption: when he died in 1532 his son John Frederic had to struggle with a desolate financial system and administrative apparatus. His nickname 'the Steadfast' he gained through his umwavering support and protection of Luther and the Reformation (since 1527 his state religion).
