Sir John and Lady Rothé settled at Oud-Wulven, a country estate between Utrecht (city) and Houten, where heir son Samuel was born. He spent his time writing folatile pamphlets exhorting people to convert and reject the eartly government. He came into contact with the English chiliast John Dury (1596-1680) and a Dutch catholic priest, Theodorus Houbie. Rothé gave him the task to convert the Jews, a condition for the 2nd coming of the Lord and saw him as a 2nd Melchisedek (van Lamoen 1999).
