In 1629, François Langlois was on his way to Italy (or coming back from Italy according to Saur 2014)with the Antwerp painter Mathieu Fredeau: they stopped in Aix-en-Provence, where the antiquarian Claude Fabri de Pereisc gave them command of the altarpiece of the altar of the Rosary in the Church of the Preachers [église des Prêcheurs]. On March 23rd 1629, François Langlois promised to make the painting after his drawing for 120 livres; he is then said to be a 'merchant of Aix'. On July 10th 1629, Mathieu Fredeau gave the receipt for the sum in his name and that of Langlois (Grivel 1986; Saur 2014).
