A painting in painting in Maribor is signed 'P.V.KESSEL. F GRATS \ 1662' (RKDimages 304112). The inscription was also read as 9RATS, and thus wrongly interpreted as Ratzenburg, where the painter died six years later (Rozman/Zeri 1989, p. 129). Five still-lifes are known in Slovenian collections, indicating his presence in the region. Four still-lifes were acquired by the collector Erasmus Friedrich Count of Herberstein, possibly directly from the artist.
