Birthplace and date remark: born c. 1380/ His place of origin was indicated on his tombstone (lost) in the abbey church of St-Etienne, Dijon; the inscription copied by the historian Pierre Palliot in the 17th century meant ‘Hathein au comté de Hollande’ according to the reading of the time and allowed for various interpretations, none of which are certain.
