Family relations: son of Thomas Bruun and Dorothea Sophia Mylius. On 5 July 1741 he married in Copenhagen to Anna Catharina Basballe (c. 1723-c. 1789), who probably was a foster child of court painter Fridrich Holm. The last years of his life Bruun was blind (Erichsen 1994).
